Windows Failover Cluster Monitoring

I’m trying to setup monitoring of a Windows Failover Cluster we’ve built.

This is a two node cluster, fairly basic. I’ve followed the documentation here:

https://www.logicmonitor.com/support/monitoring/os-virtualization/windows-cluster-monitoring

Added the relevant sources etc.

I have added the nodes, which get detected as such, it adds the categories it needs and it detects the failover cluster name and VNN itself, so that much works.

The part I don’t understand is the paragraph for adding the cluster itself.

The passage states:

After all nodes are discovered by LogicMonitor, manually add a resource for the cluster. This resource must use the cluster VNN as its hostname (which is entered into the IP Address/DNS name field). Be sure to use the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) as the hostname; do not use the IP address.

Now I’m not Shakespear...but those last two sentences seem to contradict each other? It states to use the VNN IP address for the resource IP, then says to use the hostname?

Either way, I’ve tried several combinations to no avail, it still sits there with minimal monitoring.

Am I missing something obvious here?

  • It is stating to enter the fqdn into the IP field. It needs to use the FQDN to authenticate properly.
