Monitoring Cisco ASA in multi-context mode

We have several Cisco ASAs which run in multi-context mode.

Is LogicMonitor able to automatically discover and populate the contexts for each device or it is necessary to manually add every context to LM as a separate resource?

Having read around, I can't find too much on the subject so I'm expecting the latter, but an answer one way or another would put my mind more at ease.

  • Hi Matt,

At present, LogicMonitor does not automatically discover and populate individual contexts on a Cisco ASA running in multi-context mode. Each context operates as a virtual firewall with its own configuration and SNMP context, so you’ll need to add each context manually as a separate resource in LogicMonitor.

To monitor each context effectively, you’ll:

Add the ASA multiple times to LM once for the system context, and once for each user-defined context.

Use the snmp.context property on each resource to define which SNMP context LogicMonitor should query.

There’s no built-in automation yet for pulling all contexts dynamically, but once set up, you’ll get granular visibility per context, which is often more useful operationally.

    Hope that clears it up!
