Agreed, you would be hamstringing the "Logic" part of "LogicMonitor".
What's the problem you're trying to solve? That instances get discovered and start monitoring automatically? In that case you could edit the heaviest hitting datasources* selecting "Disable Discovered Instances" under the discovery section. Unless you manually edited every datasource, you'd still have the possibility of getting some new instances discovered and started monitoring. Manually editing the datasources isn't a good idea anyway since DS updates would overwrite those changes anyway. The other thing you'd have to do is disable a bunch‡ of property sources so that properties that turn on datasources don't get created.
*Heaviest hitting datasources can be found under settings >> account information >> contacts†>> Resources >> instances.
‡Like hundreds if not 1000+.
