Changing column width on Alert List widget

As an administrator I created some public alert dashboards with specific filters. My users have "View" permission to use those dashboards.

When any of these users is trying to change the column width (to correctly see a long text, for example), they always get this error message:

How could we avoid this? 

Shouldn't it make sense to let them change the column width, at least temporarily for that session, without any warning message?
