Multi-tenancy - MSPs - A New Approach
This recommendation represents a new option for MSPs who want to deploy LogicMontior to many different customers. The concept is commonly called \'\'Delegated Administration\'\' and the abbreviated explanation of the request and the reasoning behind it is as follows:
Providing multi-tenancy is notoriously difficult among monitoring and management platformsLogicmonitors current approach will always struggle with a few fundamental and frustrating multi-tenancy hurdlesA new approach which clears these hurdles has already been proven and adopted by many management platformsHere are the key concepts of this approach which differ from LogicMonitor:A business\'s environment (account, users, collectors) should be an island, and never mixed with other businssesAll LogicMontior partners and MSPs should have separate accounts with their own usersBridges of permission should be built between the islands of MSP accounts and Clients AccountsThus, client businesses Delegate Administration (or read only) privileges to MSP accounts and their usersMSP Users must be able to seamlessly switch between separate accounts based on one set of credentialsAttached are screenshots of vendors who have implemented this common concept. None of them compete with LogicMonitor. One also demonstrates a related \'\'Dashboard of Dashboards\'\' view which is also recommended. This should be enough for this concept to be considered and discussed at LogicMonitor. I would be open to further discussion with the development team on this topic, as I have significant experience with multitenancy on numerous monitoring platforms.
For posterity, I will continue now to list other major benefits and notes mentioned above for those who might not see the need for this.
The joining and separation of MSP\'s and Clients is common, and MSP platforms should streamline the process, not hinder itThis method is proven on large scales, is rich with other advantages for MSPs, and yet does not require a change to the core of LogicMonitorMost clients prefer (many require) to own their environments for security and compliance reasonsThis opens many doors to a few current feature requests which are currently impossible (like single sign on, or LDAP integration)This has many implications with billing and markups, however there are several easy solutions to these problems. This allows MSPs to build businesses around their expertise in LogicMonitor by targeting \'\'partnerless\'\' client businessesThe current \'\'multi-tenancy\'\' features in LogicMonitor are still VERY useful for separation within large environmentsIn closing, LogicMonitor is the single most promising monitoring platform on the market in our opinion, and we want very much to see it succeed and grow. We are an MSP evaluating the deployment of LogicMonitor on a large scale across many large businesses. To us, this is the single most important feature we want to see added to the roadmap. Until then, we will be deploying our initial Clients as separate accounts because we feel the separation is more important than the volume-based price break we would get. Combining many client businesses under one LogicMonitor account is simply not an option. We will have to manage separate administrative accounts for each environments. Our helpdesk will use multiple browsers and multiple computers to minimize the need for logging in-and-out of customer accounts.
We look forward to your response on the topic, and possibly further discussion of the details.
Regards,
J
