Monitor Windows 'new style' Event Logs

In addition to the standard Windows Application, Security, Setup, System event logs there are many other server logs that have now been split out by Microsoft into the Applications and Services Logs/Microsoft/Windows section of the Event Viewer. Many of these contain essential information for being able to proactively monitor a server.

Is there plans to be able to provide us access to monitor those logs via LM? or can we do it now and I'm just not aware how it's done?

  • We currently only monitor the 3 main windows logs: Application, Security, System. (See screenshot)

  • Any updates to this. We do have an internal development ticket to investigate other ways of getting this data, but this is not currently available

  • Hi Daniel, not as yet I'm afraid. They're not exposed by Windows via the regular (WMI) methods used for the other logs.

  • Antony, Are there any updates on this? More and more applications are starting to use these logs and I can't figure out how to monitor them.

  • I have seen a workaround that might suffice for your needs. Windows has a feature called 'subscriptions' that can copy an event from one log to another log. So you can copy specified events to one of the 'standard' logs (System, Application) where LM can then monitor them.

As I hope you understand, LM tech support cannot support this type of workaround. (link)
