It there a Windows equivalent of 'VMware_vCenter_HostPerformance' DataSource
I’ve had a look but I can’t see one. So before I create one...
In my VMware dashboard I have CPU and mem combined in a single widget (to more closely resemble Windows Task Manager) because both stats are available in this DataSource:
I’d like to do the same for a Windows OS widget but without a DataSource that exposes both CPU and mem we can’t.

OP2 years agoYeah I did see WinCPU is deprecated as it’s shown in the DataSource notes. There definitely needs to be a way to hide the datapoints deprecated things expose.

·2 years agoThis is the concern - CPU is already shown twice via WinCPU and Microsoft_Windows_CPU
WinCPU is considered to be replaced with Microsoft_Windows_CPU.

If you only want your new one to be used in dashboards, you could kinda hide it inside a datasource group, perhaps something like “For Dashboards”. But might just come down to training and letting your users know why it’s like that.

OP2 years agoAh thanks - that’s a good point. The default ones are still used in some other widgets. I’ll leave the originals in place for a while longer to build up more history and then transition the widgets the new one.
And yeah basically, the datapoints and complex datapoints available in WinCPU and WinOS have been duplicated in my new DataSource:

·2 years agoI guess it would personal preference. If your new DataSources completely covers everything the originals do, including most/all datapoints and not just what you want in a table, then you can drop the originals. Personally in this situation I would likely keep the originals but modify/remove alert thresholds. These are such common basic DataSources that I would worry about assumptions that they exist.
You can kinda disable DataSources in the Resources page by disabling them in the Alert Tuning tab for top level folders/groups. Unfortunately you can’t do that directly on the root folder. You can fully disable the DataSource by modifying the AppliesTo (like adding “&& false”) but keep in mind that once a DataSource no longer applies to a device, ALL historical information it provided is gone permanently.

OP2 years agoQuick addition to this. The new DataSource is working, however now I have duplicates so people are getting confused.
My new one is basically presenting the same datapoints as the default CPU DataSource and the default Memory and Processes DataSource, and these are all obviously appearing in each resource. A key difference is my DataSource has different alert thresholds: >= 90 95 98 vs >98 for the default ones.
So, what is the best way if disabling/hiding the default DataSources? There is no Disable option, so do I need to update AppliesTo to basically not find any resources?

OP2 years agoI have been working on a new DataSource for this and I am very nearly there.
One question I have is what is the best way in Groovy to convert between FILETIME and Epoch/Unix time?
The SYSTEMUPTIME value from WMI is uint64 FILETIME type, so right now an example machine is 133527726265000000. To keep the widgets consistent with the VMware ones I want to get SYSTEMUPTIME in seconds, then I can use expression ‘<column>/60/60/24’ to get the result in days.
This is what I have so far, but I feel like there’s a better way - I’m sure I’ve seen in other DataSources some functions for dealing with epoch but I can’t now find those DataSources!

·2 years agoIf you use the “custom” type of table, then you can mix together different DataSources into one table, but then you need to manually add each and every row. That was a pain to build and maintain before they added the dynamic option so I avoid it.
I poked around the exchange and didn’t see one that was shared out that seems to merge those together, but I might not be using the right search words.
