Migrating to cloud monitoring of all our devices and moving away from using collector server

I am interested in adding more customized monitoring checks, including SQL, IIS, third party software checks and integration checks, as well as additional SQL query checks.  These checks are existing to our old server. Given this requirement, I believe that the cloud collector may not be suitable. Would it be more appropriate to utilize the standard collector server that resides within the same network as our server?
