Topology Map Icons

We would like to be able to change the device icons on the topology map so we can be able to recognize what devices belong to each specific group.

Currently, it is difficult to distinguish the devices from one another when there are hundreds of them on the same map.

Having custom icons available for each grouping would benefit the use of the map and allow the user to have an organized view of everything as a whole, as well as knowing what devices to locate without having to hover over to check what group each device pertains to.

  • Are you sure you are referring to a topology map?
The screenshot you provide is the general Mapping Widget.

  • These are the icons on the Topology Map that all devices are defaulted to.

  • Ah, yes! Thank you for pointing that out, my mistake.

My intended map was the one accessible on the Dashboard of Logic Monitor (most likely the Mapping Widget you are referring to).

Is there a way to edit the posts here in the community so I can correct my verbiage?

  • If you wish to have separate groups have different listings on the map. You would probably be better served by putting those devices in another group as well per your org groups.

Then you can target those for your Map Widget.

  • I do have several sub-groups for each of the device types within the core group, but the Map Widget seems like it can only display all of the devices within the core group and not by the sub-groups within.

Is your suggestion to move all of the sub-groups up one level out of the core group and be able to target them in the Widget Mapping that way?

Only drawback for this would be that we can't view all of the devices at once on the same Map.

So you most likely are setting a location property on the main set of folders.
To get around this, you would want to set location on a per device basis.

Then you can have a main location dashboard for a more NOC style overview, and separate dashboards based on each team. The separate dashboards would be an easy clone of the main and just change out the defaultResourcegroup variable for the proper folder.

Thank you! Creating different mapping widgets to each group is a good workaround for now.

Ideally we would still like to be able to see all devices on a single map and have different icons to differentiate each group, but until that feature is considered then your suggestion would work.  Appreciate the help!
