Responsive/dynamic data collection intervals

Currently data collection occurs at fixed intervals.  There are times when we want to collect data, say, every 15 minutes, but would like to dynamically increase frequency, say 1 minute interval, when a threshold condition is met and continue to collect at 1 minute intervals until the condition resets, then revert back to 15 minutes interval.
