Create method to have "cluster alerting groups" where we can alert if any/all instances cross a threshold

It sounds like you are talking about Cluster Alerts (https://www.logicmonitor.com/support/alerts/about-alerts/cluster-alerts).  They work pretty well for this situation.  The place they don't work is in shared resource clusters where you want to check if specific instances are failed on all resources (e.g., a wifi AP down on all controllers in a group).  For those situations, we have to hack around it with custom modules each time we encounter the problem.
