Ping hosts

Hi,

It would be great if you could add a 'ping' option like the 'monitor UNC path'. Occasionally we have equipment attached to servers etc that we have no control over or no access to (such as a phone system or a NAS). Would be great to be able to monitor these from hosts with a simple ping.

  • This can be done two ways.

Option #1: I think the most intuitive way is in the 'Services' tab (near Website checks) where you can ping from one of your collectors or from some of the LM global checkpoints.

Option #2:  In Devices tree, choose a device (I recommend a collector since that's where it's being pinged FROM).  Click Manage > Add Monitored Instance >

    Option #2 screenshots below:

  • Works great, however it would be great to see the following additions:

    • A option to add this using a right click on a host
    • The ability to add more than one ping per host
  • Hi Kris, There is a datasource which is not on our core repository yet called RemotePing which pings from hosts being monitored to other destinations. If you're interested in this hop onto chat and we can get this setup for you. Kind Regards, Paul

  • Right on! Totally agree, and just asked about this a few weeks back.  Thanks Kris for suggesting it!
