Multi-Source Host Monitoring

Hi Jerry,rnThe proper way to go about doing this would be to add in the host multiple times, as you mentioned, monitored by different collectors.rnJust keep in mind that either the displayname for your host, or the hostname + collector ID combination, must be unique for your host to be added into LM.rnAnd, my understanding is that there are no plans on the roadmap for multi-source monitoring, or loadbalanced monitoring between multiple collectors at this time, sorry. But maybe in the future!rnRegards,rnJoseph S.rnLogicMonitor Support

  • We have our first client that is interested in measuring application performance from multiple locations within their WAN.

In simple terms, we want to monitor some hosts from multiple collectors at the same time. Based on my current understanding, this is not really a built in feature for \'\'internal monitoring\'\', although Logicmonitor does offer this capability for the website monitoring component. I can think of several ways to achieve this for internal hosts, but all of them are simply clever workarounds with some drawbacks. For example, we could create DNS Aliases for each web server so that we can have the same host existing multiple times, each from a different collector.

Are there any other suggestions you might have? Is this a common request, is it on the roadmap?

Also, we actually have a few situations where we only want 1 particular Datasource to be executed on a remote collector, but the rest to be executed from a central collector. Any discussion of \'\'defining collector per-host per-datasource\'\' as a feature?
