AWS Monitoring - auto-discover sub accounts of tenant
We have a customer with many sub-accounts underneath their main AWS tenant. The AWS accounts were added to monitoring using the "AWS Organizational Unit" method, and this allowed us to discover all of the accounts. https://www.logicmonitor.com/support/aws-organizational-unit-monitoring-setup However, there is no way for us to click "Manage" on the root AWS group and add newly created accounts after the initial add. With Azure monitoring we can click Manage on the account and select the Subscriptions, but the same thing is not currently possible for AWS monitoring. I would like to request that... add an easy interface for us to add or remove sub-accounts from AWS OU/tenant monitoring. In the new UIv4 dashboards page, we are now able to add properties to a Table Widget as columns. However we can currently only add device-level properties to Table Widgets. It would be really useful for a lot of use cases if we could add instance-level properties to a dashboard widget as well. For example if we had a table which showed interfaces, it would be useful to be able to show instance-level properties of the interface such as the interface description or interface vlan. Overall I like the new filtering feature on the Dashboards page, but there are some types of widgets it does not support yet. Can we get the below widget types to support dashboard filtering by property? Map Widgets - currently Map Widgets are not affected by dashboard filters. So if I filter a dashboard by a location property, it will still show every location on the Map Widget. Even if only a single location is selected by the filter Netflow Widgets - currently Netflow Widgets also do not support dashboard filters. It is not currently possible to enable or disable monitoring/polling for a specific datasource at the group-level. In the old UI this used to just be a checkbox on the "Enable" row. The new dashboard filtering feature allows us to filter many dashboard widgets by specific properties, such as location. We have a dynamic "site health" dashboard that allows us to see the health of specific locations by filtering on the location property and selecting the desired site from a dropdown. We would like to be able to set up a slideshow using this dynamic dashboard, so the slideshow cycles through different locations from the filters selections. Can we add the ability to set up a slideshow on a single dynamic dashboard, and then cycle through different filter selections from the dropdown instead of cycling through different dashboards? I have an Azure Website that is used by our company when our primary website goes down. We call it our DR website. This is done automatically using Traffic Manager. 99% of the time, our main domain points at our real website (I'm already monitoring this). I want to be able to monitor this Azure DR website's certificate to ensure we're alerted when it expires. However because 99% of the time our domain points to our real website and not the DR website, I need to use the DR website's IP for the check. This adds a new problem in that Azure websites share IPs between customers, and use SNI to determine which customer to route traffic to. LogicMonitor's website checks don't provide a way to specify the SNI header. I had a use case recently where a customer wanted to alert based off of a log message, and then keep the alert active until the log message is not seen for X amount of hours. Currently we can alert off of a log condition and keep the alert active for X amount of hours, but there is no rolling timer to check if the log is still occurring. So once the static alert-clear window ends, the alert clears and a new one triggers the next time the log comes in. Recently I came up with a way to attach custom properties to instances created by the Cisco DNAC Devices DataSource. I was able to separate the locations of our devices based on our naming scheme of the device into 4 different categories and I was hoping to use these and apply them using the dashboard dynamic filters, only to see that I am limited to resource properties only. I have come across this issue a few times now, and feel it's worth bringing up. A major roadblock to making our integrations (with major platforms like ConnectWise) work the way we want them to is the limitation of only being able to make a single API request per event/status change/etc. One example - we want to be able to insert the "Acknowledged" noteswhen an alert (or several) are ack'ed inLogicMonitor as a service note to the corresponding tickets in ConnectWise AND update the status of the ConnectWise ticket to 'In progress'. That requires 2 API calls:one (which is the default for your builtinConnectWise integration) to update the ticket priority/status/etc (HTTP PATCH ->https://{connectwiseSite}/v4_6_release/apis/3.0/service/tickets/{id}) and another to add a note to the ticket (HTTP POST ->https://{connectwiseSite}/v4_6_release/apis/3.0/service/tickets/{id}/notes). Another example - our RMM tool does not support the usual API Key method of authentication. It requires that one go through a slightly obtuse algorithm to send credentials,save a generated session token that is returned as part of the response body, and then submit that session token in the headers of future requestsas a bearer token. I don't want to just leave these sessions open all the time, even though all traffic is submitted through HTTPS, the session token grants access as the API user from anywhere. So without going bonkers in complexity and asking for the world - it would be good enough to just beable to execute multiple API requests : 1 - Authenticate and save part of the response body, 2 - Submit one or more requests using the session token, 3 - Logout. Hi, When viewing a website, there is a button on the top right called Website Defaults. Clicking this button brings up a screen where I can enter the default settings I want my websites to use. These settings are displayed in two tabs. Website Checks and Internal Website Checks. The screen looks as thought I can set defaults for External Checks and then set defaults for Internal checks separately. However, this is not the case. If I set the settings how I want for the External checks, and then I go set different settings for Internal checks, those settings overwrite the External check settings. Even though the settings are shown in separate tabs, they use the same settings for both. My specific use case is that I want External checks to create Critical alerts since it means our public sites are down. I want internal checks to create Error alerts because it's just something inside the network having an issue but may not be affecting the public sites. There is currently no way to do this which means I have to pick one set of default settings to use, and then set all the other sites manually. Release notes have been including notice about deprecated logicmodules and indicated replacements for a while and this is great. I would like to request that consideration be given to what I think would be even better. A few ideas: the current way that replacement modules are presented in the Release Notes (side by side columns limited by screen real estate and page layout) can make it tedious to conclusively determine which module is the replacement since often the text of names wraps to additional lines. So finding some way change to change this presentation that shows an unequivocal 1:1 relationship between a deprecated module and its replacement would be awesome. If you navigate to MyToolbox and select a module, the bottom half of the screen opens with details about this module. There is a tag present that says "In Use". Maybe another tag could be created that says "Deprecated" and clicking on it takes you to the replacement module? In the reverse direction, if you navigate to the Exchange and select a module, maybe there could be a "Replacement For" tag, that if clicked upon takes you to the module/s that it replaces? What about if there was some way to create an OOB filter & Saved/Favorite view in My Toolbox that presents a list of deprecated modules, each with a clear mechanism that matches it to its replacement? Find some way to generate an alert (probably even with its own icon/color to give it maximum distinction in the Alerts Tab/table) when a module's status changes to 'deprecated' and have the alert message text includes exact replacement module details (Origin ID?) I am hearing that Rubrik is retiring their REST API in favor of GraphQL. This will likely impact the Rubrik monitoring package in LM since the REST API will no longer work. The below documentation from Rubrik suggests that starting with version 9, the REST API will not be supported. When setting up a website check, there are two options for Alerting: Of multiple selected locations Of one selected location The Multiple option is enabled by default, but it doesn't include any details of an alert when one comes in. It just tells me how many checkpoints have a problem. The One option is set to Nothing by default, but that option includes details of website alerts, and is far more useful than the other option. I can enable the second option to start getting alerts there just fine. However, there is no "Nothing" choice for the first option so I can't turn those off. This means that if I enable the second option, I'm going to get duplicate alerts all the time. There needs to be a Nothing option in the first box like there is the second box. I consider this a bug, but maybe it's WAD and needs to be reevaluated. When an alert occurs during an SDT, the "IN SDT" field for that alert gets set to True. This is good because the alert is during an SDT. The problem is that once the alert clears, even if it's still in an SDT, the IN SDT field gets changed to False. This is not good. Because it does this, there is no way to run a report on alerts for the week/month/whatever and tell which ones were during an SDT and which ones weren't. Example: We do patching every month and this causes some of our websites and servers to go down, and CPUs to spike, while things are installing and rebooting. We set these to an SDT because we know it's going to happen. When we go to run our monthly alert reports, we see lots of errors for uptime, ping, CPU, etc from the checks that ran during the reboot. We don't need to investigate these because they were during SDT which means they were expected. When I set the IN SDT field to False in the report, assuming it's going to then show me only the alerts that occurred outside of an SDT, that's not what I get. I get EVERY alert because that field gets set to False for every alert when it clears. I don't understand what the rationale is for doing this as it removes very important functionality for anyone who runs reports after-the-fact. Simply leaving the IN SDT field alone, when the alert clears, would solve this problem. If the alerts cleared while in an SDT, leave the field as True. If the alert cleared wile not in an SDT, leave the field as False. That way I can tell, and run reports on, which alerts were expected and which were not. I need to change the external checkpoints for all the website I have in a certain group/folder. That group has multiple levels of subgroups and dozens of websites. The only way I can see to change this currently is to go one by one and uncheck the unneeded checkpoint on every site individually. We need the ability to create topology map of our switches and routers showing the actual links between interfaces on the devices and showing the latest InMbps / OutMbps datapoints for each interface. The goal is to have a live network map for networks likeInternet Service Provider networks, to be able to visualize the active state of the network and the bandwidth utilization and alert status of each device and interface / link. We need to be able to do the following: - Manually add the switch and router resources to the map. - Once the resource is on the map, click on the resource on the map and select an interface instance from the "network interfaces" LogicModule to add to a "Link". Then drag over to, or select, the connected resource, and select the associated interface instance from the "network interfaces" LogicModule on the second device. - This will visually show a link between the two devices, and the InMbps and/or OutMbps datapoints should be displayed over the link on each end of the link. - The color of each half or end of the link should also change based on the highest active alert level for the associated "network interfaces" instance on that end of the link. So for example, If we have Router1 interface GigEth0/1 connected to Router2 GigEth0/2, and Router1 GigEth0/1 has an active warning level alert for InBroadcastPkts, then that half of the line representing the link, should turn to yellow. - It's not enough to simply outline the resource with a color based on the alert level of the resource. We need to visually see each desired interface / link on the map and see visually which interface(s) is/are alerting. LogicMonitor has done an absolutely outstanding job of giving us immense flexibilty in how we can represent any datapoint on widgets on dashboards. But when it comes to the Topology mapping, we’re severely limited in how we can represent the exact same datapoints visually on the map. Also, for these kind of use-cases, people managing these kinds of network generally already know how their devices are connected, or can easily identify the connectivity. We don’t really need LogicMonitor to automatically detect connections between devices, because that’s too big of a challenge to automate that well. We just need to be able to manually say, “This interface on this device connects to this interface on this device. That’s a link.” The link itself is actually comprised of two sides, each being an instance on theresource’s LogicModule. And it could be “Interfaces 64 bit” or “Network Interfaces” or whatever other LogicModule we need. When we make w widget, we can select whatever LogicModule and Instance we need. We have several ( hundreds of ) dashboards which show pertinent data to the relevant teams here. Each set of teams sit in separate areas, and they all need to see their dashboards. As such, we have set up dashboard stations ( computers with a bunch of screens attached ) so they can put all their dashboards in their own areas on a specific wall etc.. The only portal which is timing out is the LogicMonitor portal. Is there any way to override a specific account to not be bound by the portal settings for idle logons? I would like to request the ability to show aggregate data in a table widget. Currently, table widgets can only show the current value being reported for a datapoint. An example of this being useful would be showing interface utilization & speed, including avg/max over a certain time range. We have had this asked for multiple times by different customers, and we are currently only able to give them that data via either a resource metric trend report or graph widgets, neither of which meet their needs. We already have collectorid and collectordesc standard properties, but in all our deployments we have at least 2 collectors. Since in Dynamic Group custom queries you cannot use inherited properties I’d like to be able to specify the query to include resources from the collector group level rather than individual collectors (using OR / || operators), especially since provisioning a new collector to replace a previous one will generate a new collectorid and collectordesc value so the query will need to be permanently maintained. For us at least, new collectors will always belong to a collector group, so this seems to simplify the requirement of splitting up MSP version of LM between multiple customers. The way we handle hierarchy is to add every resource to a static group, outside of any customer folder, then inside each customer folder we have a dynamic group for ‘All Devices’ looking for that customers resources. Currently we achieve this using the API in a PropertySource to grabthe resource’s collectorid value, pass that to the API and return the collectorgroupname value, thenset that returned value to an auto.organisation value at the resource level. And then in the query we have auto.organisation == “XYZ” . Using the API seems an unneededoverhead. Instead, at the point of adding resources, since they already get collectorid and collectordesc added, the Add Device process should include a lookup to get the used collector’scollectorgroup values and set them directly on the resource as collectorgroupid and collectorgroupdesc (to be consistent with the current ones). For example I have an API call function embedded in to a single PropertySource. If I need to do the same thing in another script I have to embedit all inline again. And if that grows to 10s or even 100s of scripts and I need to update the code, then it becomes unmanageable. So instead such shared script functions/modules should be able to go somewhere else that we can then import to another script. Newbie to LM and have been asked for a method to monitor Public DNS A,MX,PTR record monitoring for a number of DNS Zones e.g. customer1.domain.com, customer2.domain.co.uk. I know I do a powershell command resolve-DnsName <domain> -Server <Target DNS Server> -Type <A etc> and get the correct output. What I do not know is how to turn this into a datasoure and use properties to pass in the domains and record types. I would like to submit a recommendation for a feature request please. This would benefit a lot off users I believe. I work for a large managed service provider with many customers in LM. While checking my customers today I noticed the top level resource grouping for one of them had Alerting switched OFF. I asked an LM Admin to check who had set this and when to discover after further investigation an engineer had mistakenly clicked this 5 days ago. I had a case with Logicmonitor support where I asked if it was possible to filter away alerts that fall under a cluster alert. Here I got the suggestion to use routing state but this does not give anyvalue on a cluster alert. The support engineer looked further into it. "I have tested this further and unfortunately using the routingstate filter is not going to work here as this relates to suppressed by Root Cause Analysis. I have a problem where my users will disable alertingon a resource that has been removed from the environment instead of deleting it. Or they may disable alerting and forget to re-enable it. With alerting disabled, my no-data datapoint alerts never trigger. In the case of removed devices, the resources just hang out there forever andnever getremoved because theydon’t show up on my data collection failures dashboard. Devices for which the user intended to re-enable alerting eventually meet the same fate unless they go down and we don’t know about it. Either of these outcomes is bad news. It would be nice if there were a property which would indicate that alerting for aresource has been disabled. As far as I am aware, there is currently no way to do this. Then I couldcreate a dynamic group of devices which have monitoring disabled. As devices are populated in the group, I can investigate them.
