Linux Collector setup

HI fellow monitor champs

I have a question regarding installing linux collectors.

Our engineers are complaining that they cant detect the collector when installing and adding it to the portal. So the collector is visible in collectors but if we add the machine it does not work.

Adding Collector - LogicMonitor

Do we need additional steps? And if yes which exact ones?

    This is all covered on basic training of the platform.

    Best practices would be determined by your organization.

    Credentials are inherited so you could set them on a folder and each device would inherit them if they are the same creds. This is the general practice by a lot of LogicMonitor use cases. You can also override those at a device level.

    Have more information? What do you mean by they can't detect the collector? What happens when they attempt to add the device into the Resources tab? Can it even ping itself?

    When you add a Linux system into LM there will be some requirements, whether it's a Collector or not. For example Linux monitoring mostly uses snmp so you need to configure snmp on both the server itself and the device in LM. Like setting up snmpv3 user and such. If you will use ssh monitoring instead, then that needs to be setup also.

      Hi Mike thank you for your reply.

      The problem that is encountered by a lot of engineers are asking me questions about the best-practices. On what level should we enter the credentials, does collected devices need a startup, can we use the same credentials... This is something i would like to be secure and stable in future deployments.
