Docker Collector Deployment Improvements

The collector container by default is not set to perform any restarts. JSON Path capability in a Webpage DataSource

I think the answer to this is gonna be “You need to script it, dummy”, but figured I’d check anyway... I'm working on a new DataSource that pulls/interprets JSON data from a peudo-custom system via HTTP.The system has a status page that lists the status of various components using JSON elements that have this general format:ParameterName&ParameterType Initial idea was that I could use the Webpage collector since it supports JSON/BSON parsing.Issue I’m running into is that the values on most of these JSON elements are string (i.e. “true”/”false”).I set up a DataPoint that can extract that value by putting in the JSON Path like so:$.[##WILDVALUE##].[ParameterName&ParameterType]...and I can see that I’m getting the “true”/”false” values back when I do a Poll Now.  But - as we know - LM won’t deal with strings natively. Workaround I came up with was to get length of the string since true/false are different lenghts.According to sources online, JSON Path should support a calculation

Feature enhancement: Preserve changes to alert thresholds when updating customized LogicModule

LogicMonitor continues to roll out more enhancements to the Module Toolbox to make viewing, updating, installing, and managing LogicModules easier than before.   In release v186, it is now possible to preserve alert thresholds when updating modules to newer versions.  This enhancement adds to the current ability to preserve Active Discovery filters, AppliesTo, Collection Interval, Discovery Interval, Display Name, and Group during module updates.  These preservation options provide the benefit of our LogicModule team’s enhancements and fixes combined with your environment-specific customizations. To preserve your module’s alert thresholds when updating via the module Exchange, use the toggle on the right pane of the “Final Review” update window.  Once you finish the module update, your alert thresholds will remain.  Happy updating!Support article reference: https://www.logicmonitor.com/support/modules-management

LogicMonitor, Groovy, Python and APIs Ohhh my

You just started your new job and they have LogicMonitor as their observability tool, that’s great!  One huge step up from other organizations you’ve worked with.  The last guy that worked on the platform did a pretty good job of keeping up with the platform but you see some improvements that would really help with the organization of the portal.  You want  to create multiple folder structures.  The first group of nested folders will be based on the equipment location the second will be based on the equipment task.  This will allow you to provide additional people access to the portal but limit their visibility into only the things that are in their location or their job function.  Yup sounds great, your coworkers like it and more importantly your manager approves.  Now how are you going to assign 700 pieces of equipment at 30 different sites to the correct folder with the correct permissions?  Oh yeah you got a secret weapon, APIs!  The goal of this and subsequent posts is to try to d

Hi !My customer wants to be able to generate a weekly report on any changes made in the rules of their Palo Alto firewalls (hundreds) whether this is done as part of a template push or a one-off. Is this something that LM Config can provide ?Cheers,Scott H

Using Postman to create multiple Websites via API & CSV?

Hi,I’m testing out creating websites (or resources) via the API.  I have a standard Post working in Postman just fine.  However, when I then try to do the same thing via a CSV file in the Runner section, I’m getting 401 Authorization errors.When I look at the data that’s being sent, it looks the same as what’s sent when I run it manually.Is there something special I need to do when running a Post command via the Runner vs the manual Send command?Thanks.

Monitor version of Java

Is there a way to monitor the version of Java currently installed on a server? There is a group of Windows servers that host software that requires a certain version of Java to be installed. Java getting updated has caused issues, I was curious if there was a way for LogicMonitor to see what version is installed and to notify if that changes.

Example script for automated alert actions via External Alerting

Below is a PowerShell script that's a handy starting point if you want to trigger actions based on specific alert types. In a nutshell, it takes a number of parameters from each alert and has a section of if/else statements where you can specify what to do based on the alert. It leverages LogicMonitor's External Alerting feature so the script runs local to whatever Collector(s) you configure it on.I included a couple of example actions for pinging a device and for restarting a service. It also includes some handy (optional) functions for logging as well as attaching a note to the alert in LogicMonitor.NOTE: this script is provided as-is and you will need to customize it to suit your needs. Automated actions are something that must be approached with careful planning and caution!! API: How do I bulk-query topology data?

I need to query topology data for all devices.  What is the endpoint for that?Currently, I’m using:topology/data?resource=device.XXX&algorithm=I-Feel-Lucky...but obviously, this requires iterating over all devices, which is stupidly inefficient and is clogging up the REST API.How can this be achieved in a single (albeit probably paged) query?

Update Multiple Global Data Source's Data Points

Hey there, I have over 100 Global Data Source’s Data Points that I need to change the name and threshold and was curious if this is possible with the API? So far, I have been able to grab all the Data Sources and drill into their Data Points, however, I do not see the option to POST, PUT, or PATCH this endpoint. Any help is welcome! I am using PowerShell.Thanks!

string filters in the API (groovy)

In the past I have not had much need of filters in API, and on the rare occasion I have, it has been numeric filters. But for some reason I cannot get string filters to work at all without throwing errors, either 400 responses, or else unexpected character errors.I can do this all day and get results:    queryParams = '?offset=' + offset.toString() + '&size=1000&filter=id:1256'; But as soon as I try to make my filter a string filter, I get errors, and I’ve seen both of the following used in various LM docs online, as if they would work, but I just get unexpected string errors:    queryParams = '?offset=' + offset.toString() + '&size=1000&filter=status:active';    queryParams = '?offset=' + offset.toString() + '&size=1000&filter=status:”active”'; Basically, I’m pretty sure I’m just not passing in the string value I want for status in a correct way. I’ve literally seen LM documentation of status:active and I’ve seen other examples when they do name~”whatever” but

Can I pull a specific system property in an API call?

Hi,I’m writing an API call that pulls only specific fields.  I can get all the normal fields, but I want to get system.groups.  System.groups is inside the systemProperties array of variables and I haven’t been able to figure out if I can pull it.I’m using: &fields=name,displayName,collectorDescription,hostStatus and want to add systemProperties[system.groups] but can’t find any syntax that will work.  I’ve found examples on how to Filter on a property, but not how to just display it.Anyone know how I can do this?Thanks.

Topology Mapping in 1.85

Good Morning All. So while my organizations had some headaches with Topology Mapping I’m curious if anyone is having this issue:Basically when creating a Topology Map, the entire map will reset every 5 minutes within the editor (Working on the Dynamic Mapping).  This is a bit difficult to deal with and hasn’t been an issue in 1.84 (granted our issue was the map would reset itself after saving to default, but we could at least get that far.)If anyone has any issues similar to this or has any solutions to prevent this, I’d be happy to hear them.  This is the first time in months that we cannot make an accurate map of our core (basically showing our primary back-bone topology).

SDK install deprecated

Got this on a recent reinstall of logicmonitor_sdk using pip. DEPRECATION: logicmonitor_sdk is being installed using the legacy 'setup.py install' method, because it does not have a 'pyproject.toml' and the 'wheel' package is not installed. pip 23.1 will enforce this behaviour change. A possible replacement is to enable the '--use-pep517' option. Discussion can be found at https://github.com/pypa/pip/issues/8559The part that worries me is that pip 23.1 will enforce the pyproject.toml and given the rate that LM publishes updates the SDK, pip installs will break at some point. For me that point is pretty soon because 23.1 is the current version of pip. Luckily, I haven’t upgraded my pip from 22.3.1 to 23.1 like it’s prompting me to.Anybody else tried pip installing it while already on 23.1? Guess I’ll mock it up in docker.

Alerting for switch port traffic drop using interface description

I’m trying to manufacture a health check for a security camera system that doesn’t offer any internal checks.  The cameras can fail but still respond to ping and other basic checks, so my thought is to look at the switches and use the port descriptions (which we manually maintain) and create a alert for only those ports if traffic falls below a threshold indicating there is no stream to the NVR.All of the ports connected to cameras have ‘SecCam’ followed by location info in the description which I can see under the Switch / Network Interfaces for:system.instanceDescriptionauto.interface.aliasauto.interface.descriptionHow would I go about setting up monitoring in a central way?  Currently we’re manually creating an Instance group and putting interfaces in it per switch but that’s still dozens or possibly hundreds of different places to manage alert tuning / SDT.
