Excluding VMware VMs from instance discovery

When we add a vCenter into Logic Monitor, the VMs in it’s managed clusters are discovered as instances of underneath datasources applied to the vCenter, like:VMware VM StatusVMware VM SnapshotsVMware VM PerformanceSometimes there are VMs that we have no interest in monitoring, so we don’t want them to be picked up by these datasources. At the moment, we’re manually adding an Instance Group, putting those VMs in the group and then disabling alerts, which is quite a manual process.Ideally we’d like LM to not discover VMs that have had a specific tag/value applied to them in vCenter. I think we should be able to do this by modifying the Groovy script used for Active Discovery on these data sources, but I’m not sure how to go about that.Has anyone managed to do something similar?Dave

Why can't Administrators create API Tokens?

It makes no sense that Administrators cannot themselves create API Tokens (e.g for new API-only users in a read-only role).I have to either:Ask someone to demote my account (e.g. to the “manager” role) Create the API Token Ask them to promote my account back to the administrator roleORCreate myself a second identity (which is contrary to our security policy).ORCreate an API Token creation tool to bypass this nonsense.

No Data and Error not seen before

Hello, I have an issue where on a VM where a collector is installed it is returning No Data for items such as System Uptime and CPU but returning data for Memory and Processes. When I do a Poll Now on the System Uptime it Times Out. If I do Poll Now on CPU I get NaN and this message: "java.io.IOException: winproxy return status=0x00000261 errmsg=Process the request timeout" I tried to re-install the collector but still getting the same error. I also restarted the LogicMonitor Agent and Watchdog Services along with the WMI service. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot and resolve? Any help is much appreciated! Thank you.

When Will My Module Toolbox Work Properly?

So we recently received a banner in one of our portals stating that in a future release the LogicModules section will no longer be available. This concerns us greatly as I noticed something after I just had a new portal spun up. I logged in, went to the Modules section in the new UI and told it to show me all of our outdated items. Nothing shows up. I then went into the Exchange, told it to show me all of the Installed and Update Available. Nothing shows. I also checked for anything Official that isn’t installed, and nothing shows up. So I naturally go the legacy route, load up DataSources, and tell it to look at the repository. Lo and behold, I have 85 DataSources. Some are new, some are updated.We were told at one point that the Modules/Toolbox/Exchange area look at a different repository, so we gave the benefit of the doubt and checked one of the new modules and an updated module, and both were 3 months old and not showing up in the new UI.Stu brought up some concerns as well in Upd

LM Portal Integration Events - EventSource to alert on Alerting Integration failures

What:It’s an EventSource that calls recent Alert Integration events from the LM API (endpoint: /setting/integrations/auditlogs) , and alerts on any non-2xx responses.Why:Mostly because these failures aren’t glaringly obvious within the LM Envision UI; you have to actively go and look for them. This EventSource will let you alert on them within LM, both in the UI itself and also as an alert that can be escalated out.Obvious caveat:If you want to escalate alerts from this EventSource out of the platform, use an Alert Rule and an Escalation Chain to target the alerts and route them out via email/SMS/Voice call, not via an Alerting Integration. 😉You will need:A LogicMonitor Portal Resource, that all the core LogicMonitor_Portal_* LogicModules also apply to.API credentials such as you’d already have set on this resource, as per our documentation:https://www.logicmonitor.com/support/logicmonitor-portal-monitoringThe user that these credentials relate to must have read access to LM Audit Log

Cisco Network Interface ARP information

Hi Community,wanted to check if anyone had already build something in this direction or to get some additional guidance on how to best realize this.Our company is currently in the process of implementing LogicMonitor to monitor our Network equipment - we already on-boarded all of our network devices and started to grant access to additional groups.We´ve been asked now if there is a way to show the MAC and IP-address currently been connected to a switch port. Doesnt really matter where we would display that data but having them per switch would be the goal. The data doesnt need to be live a snapshot per day would be good enough. We are Cisco shop and unfortunately i havent figured out an easy way to do this. One challenge is that the IP information are not available on L2 Switches - granted we are able to pull in Port and MAC address information into LM, is there a way to identify the next Core/Distro (L3) Switch to pull the IP address information and add them to the existing informatio

Change Instance Name

Hi, I have noticed a few alerts are not generating ticket within our Connectwise Manage via the integration, looking in the log i can see a 400 error with the below payload: { "code": "InvalidObject", "message": "ticket object is invalid", "errors": [ { "code": "MaxLengthField", "message": "The field summary must be a string with a maximum length of 100.", "resource": "ticket", "field": "summary" } ] } I understand that the length restriction will be from connectwise, but is there a way to change the name of an instance within logicmonitor. The alert in question here will be around 104 characters in length. The instance for this is picked up via auto discovery from Unifi Access Point Datasource and i cannot see a way to change the name of this. Thanks,James

Aruba Switching/Routing

Has anyone else had to customize their portal a lot to get features to work better with Aruba switches and routers? It just seems that I keep running into issues with trying to get things to work for that equipment in a similar way to how features work for Cisco equipment.I suppose I want to mostly know if I’m not alone in having random things just working differently, if my situation is really that unique or not

Adding Weather to Map Widgets

LogicMonitor's Map widgets are a great and easy way to plot resources/groups geographically, including their status. A question that comes up occasionally is if it's possible to show weather information on top of these maps. While there's currently not a native option to show weather on a Map widget, it is possible to inject a weather layer onto an existing map with a bit of JavaScript. Below is a link to a sample dashboard that can insert various types of weather info onto Map widgets. Simply save the linked JSON file to your local workstation, then in your LogicMonitor portal go to Dashboards and click Add > From File. Dynamic_Weather_Overlay.json The magic happens in JavaScript embedded in the source of the Text widget. Feel free to explore the source code by entering the Text widget's Configure dialog and clicking the 'Source' button. Anyone seen an Alerts page Header Graph error about java.lang.IllegalArgumentException?

I have some users with a role that, over the weekend, suddenly get an error on the header graph of their alerts page:java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Invalid operatorI suspect someone may have changed their role, but nothing shows in the audit logs for that role being changed, but I also know their dashboard has some broken items that exist in the correct place. And I’m suspecting the header graph has aggregated alerts in the database somewhere referring to things they cant see anymore and so is throwing the error. Because when I view the same thing for all alerts on the system (including theirs) I have no problems (my user can see everything). I’m just wondering if anyone has ever encountered this sort of thing before. Maybe its a known product bug, throwing the error on the alerts page instead of just not showing what it cant see.

Host Status errors corrected by logging into Collector server.

Every night we receive “Host Status” messages on several servers on one collector. You cannot “!ping” to those servers from the Collector’s debug console.However, you can ping those servers that Logic Monitor reports as down.If I log into the collector, the Host Staus messages clear (only login, do not open anything). This is what is baffling us.Has anyone seen anything like this?Thank you very much for your help.

What:An API-calling PropertySource to mark whether devices have (or should have) ConfigSources on them.Why:There is no canned report nor convenience function to provide a list of which resources in your portal have ConfigSources applied to them, nor which of those resources have instances successfully discovered (or not). It's also difficult to find, other than via the API, devices which should have ConfigSource instances but which do not, which will happen if e.g. you have applied incorrect ssh credentials to suitable network resources. This PropertySource enables all of this. If you are using NetApp ONTAP, you are likely aware that ONTAPI/ZAPI is approaching end of availability. In preparation for the transition from ONTAPI/ZAPI, LogicMonitor has updated modules to use the ONTAP REST API when we detect that you’ve enabled it. This is supported on systems with ONTAP 9.11 and higher.Why should you care? Using a Dedicated Collector for each Windows Domain Controller?

We ran into trouble monitoring our Windows Domain Controllers because we want to use least privilege and we were only receiving ping and Host Status data. It showed “No data” for CPU, disks, etc.We used the information in the link “https://www.logicmonitor.com/support/monitoring/os-virtualization/monitoring-a-domain-controller-dc” and installed the collector on a DC using the local system account and set it to monitor itself.I am now receiving CPU, disk, etc. from that domain controller. It appears the only catch is that I cannot monitor other systems with that collector but that is OK for our situation.Are there others out there that are monitoring DCs using this method and if so, have you run into any trouble (performance, etc.)?If you are not using this method, how are you monitoring your DCs in Logic Monitor.THANK YOU very much for your assistance/opinions/guidance.
