How to create a TOP 5?
Hello, Is there multiple ways to create a TOP 5 graphs for all Datasources alerts? - Lines - Pies I tried using a pie but it does not seem to like the number of instances (over 2000)... depending on the group selected... Does "Aggregate Sum" is the correct set or should I use "TOP 10"? Thanks, Dom
WMI vs SNMP on Windows
Windows Server 2016, VM, but defined as standalone server in LogicMonitor. One of the applications running on this server is Cisco Contact Server. So OK, because it is a Windows machine I give it standard WMI credentials used for our Windows servers discovery. Because the Cisco app uses SNMP v2c access I give it snmp.commnunity and snmp.version properties. Discovery runs fine and everything is working OK but here's the issue. A slight one but it is an issue nonetheless.... I end with multiple DataSources doing double monitoring for the same OS component. I have 2 'CPU Cores' DS monitoring CPU. One is using WMI and the other SNMP. I have 'Interfaces-' DS listed twice. I have 'Services-' and 'Windows Servivces'. List continues.... I thought LM had a logic in place so only one of the protocols would be used (WMI vs SNMP). What's the best practice to deal with this issue?
VMWare CPU Count
Greetings, I've been an LM user for a couple years now but haven't done too much with modifying data sources so forgive me if I sound like I don't know what I'm doing. I don't! I want to be able to use the number of CPUs and GB of RAM in a cluster in widgets. I'm specifically trying to make a graph to look at oversubscription best practices for VMWare. My issue is I really need the total number o CPUs and GB of RAM to be a data point, not an auto system property. That data is only being put into the auto system property. (see below) I've tried to edit the datapoints in that are gathered with the datasource, but Groovy is pretty tricky. I've beat my head against this particular wall for long enough, it's time to ask for help. Has anybody done this, or can somebody help me out with what needs to change in my datasource? Thanks
Can I run a powershell script?
Hello, Our company's IT team uses LogicMonitor. I have a background using Nagios. With Nagios, I can run a PowerShell script that returns one of three possible values (OK, WARNING, CRITICAL). I have a script that calls an internal application's API, takes the resulting JSON and parses it looking for specific items. It does some logic on the result and returns a status of OK/WARNING/CRITICAL based on the results. This PowerShell script would be run from the monitoring server. I was told LogicMonitor can only do checks via SNMP & WMI. Can it do custom checks like this? What resource can you point me to to learn more about how to do this?
Groovy Script Forcibly Killed. Elapsed time 47 seconds
I'm attempting to create a data source which runs a jdbc query using groovy scripting. The query takes about 2 minutes to run. I have adjusted the collector timeout like this: # script collector configuration collector.script.enable=true collector.script.threadpool=100 collector.script.timeout=360 I get the error : Groovy Script Forcibly Killed. Elapsed time 47 seconds. Is there some other setting or configuration that I need to adjust or is this a hard limitation for Groovy script, JDBC queries.
Adding/Modifying Device System and Auto Properties via API
When I was checking the api documentation, there was nothing there indicating how to add/modify System Properties for example "system.sysinfo". Is this even possible? I bring up as it would be useful for reporting/dashboard purposes, as sometimes we DONT have a means to fully monitor a machine aside from pinging it and or engaging it via an API, but say in a quick report we want to see how many windows/CentOS servers we have and the connection trends, we can sort/filter by system.sysinfo or other system properties that are usually there.
IIS Log Aggregation / Analyzation / Monitoring?
Can LogicMonitor aggregate / analyze / monitor logs from Windows Server IIS, outside of more system-wide Netflow? I checked out adding an Event Source of type log file, and pointed it at a directory of IIS logs, which were located on a remote server (so, I used a UNC path pointing from the collector to the remote system, which was on the same subnet), but, I'd rather not have to specify an alert along with it, and because of that, I'm not sure if it's working as I'd hoped. Basically, I'm looking for something on the level of Azure Monitor (aka Log Analytics) / SCOM (more info: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-monitor/platform/data-sources-iis-logs), or Naigos / SolarWinds / Sumo Logic.
New Alert UI - multiple ACK
Hi all. I searched but haven't found an answer. In the new Alerts UI the "Add ACK" seems to be missing (at least for me). I've tried Firefox 83.0 (64-bit) and Chrome Version 87.0.4280.88 (Official Build) (64-bit) on Win10). The documentation shows it -https://www.logicmonitor.com/support/alerts/about-alerts/alerts-page-overview/#multiple If I view the alerts in the old UI, there is still the option to check several alerts and click the Acknowledge button. What am I missing?? Thanks!
Export Netflow from Windows Server to LogicMonitor
Exporting Netflow from Windows with FlowTraq Exporter NetFlow is an industry standard network protocol for monitoring traffic flows across a network interface. It is used most commonly by devices like firewalls, routers, and switches, but some software packages make it possible to export Netflow data from a server operating system - in this case Windows - to a Netflow collector (LogicMonitor) for traffic analysis. Instructions 1.) Register for and download the free FlowTraq Exporter. 2.) Download WinPcap (Windows packet capture library). 3.) Install WinPcap on the server you wish to export Netflow data from. 4.) Install and configure Flowtraq Exporter on the server you wish to export Netflow data from. - Select an interface from which to export Netflow data on the server. - Point the Netflow export data to the LogicMonitor Collector that will be monitoring the device and ingesting the flow data. - The LogicMonitor collector listens for Netflow
Can LogicMonitor provide monitoring services in mainland China?
I have a Global account and plan to set up a set of Azure Stack systems (based on Dell servers and switch) in China. This customer asked us whether Logicmonitor can monitor Azure Stack servers in China. I saw on the Logicmonitor website that Logicmonitor can monitor Azure Cloud, so please help confirm two questions: 1. Can Logicmonitor provide monitoring services in mainland China? 2. Can Logicmonitor monitor Azure Stack hardware systems (DELL PowerEdge and PowerSwitch)? thanks.
Collector Status Page - Property source task hostabc:21 has run about 65123 seconds
On the 'Collector Status Page' near the bottom I'm seeing something like: "PropertySource: The property source task hostabc123.co.com:21 has run about 65961 seconds. Please check whether it's blocked or has any updates in property source." How can I identify which property source that is exactly? Does the ":21" refer to a particular property source or is that just some random task execution id? I've looked at !aplist and !apdetail but I don't see an association between anything there and the status msg. Any ideas? Thx.
Is there any Exchange DAG monitoring DS nowadays?
Hello, Just wondering if anyone developed DS to monitoring Exchange DAG so far? That monitoring is really important on our current tool... If not, I guess we can develop one but, prior to that I just wanna make sure there's nothing out there already. Thank you in advance!
How can I Monitor Windows Service with Dynamic Display Name?
I have a windows service that the Display name is dynamically appended with the PID each time the service restarts. I need to monitor this service, however, every time the service is started the Display name changes as the process PID changes. Is there a way to monitor the service by service name and NOT by display name? All I can get to work is the display name.
AppliesTo Scripting Question
Hi I have spent some time trying to work this out but need. My environment consists of about 30 vCenter Servers (including their hypervisors). I am trying to create a dynamic group with a custom query that finds all those hypervisors with a certain property. In this instance, I am looking for specific versions of ESXi so have got the following custom query: isVirtualization(contains(auto.version_number,"6.5.0")) It picks up the ESXi hosts that are at version 6.5.0 but it also picks up ESXi hosts on other versions. Please can someone help point out where I am going wrong? I will also look to expand it to include 6.7.0 and 7.0.0 first things first. Thanks for any assistance. Regards, Michael
Is there a way to include the Instance Group Name in a report?
Does anyone know if there is a way to include the Instance Group Name as a column in a report? I tried: instance.group / ##INSTANCEGROUP## / system.deviceGroupId but none of these worked. So under any DS you can add an Instance Group and I need to include that Group Name in the inventory report. Its not listed as a property on the Instances INFO page. Thanks,
