How do you handle NetScans and what do you do with the devices they find?
Hi,
We have 60+ NetScans setup in our LM instance. Each one scans a different network segment and they are paired up with the collector that also scans that segment. That part seems to work fine. However, we have each of our NetScans configured to put the results list of device into a separate folder. This make it easy to tell which devices were found by which netscans and then figure out what we need to do with them.
The part that we've having issues with is that the netscans constantly find IPs that are only IPs. They aren't things that LM can scan. We want to tell LM to not add those devices in when it finds them but don't have a good way to do that. It looks like we'd have to go manually edit each netscan and maintain an Exclude list for the specific IPs we want it to not bring into LM. Since we have 60+ netscans, this sounds horrible.
There is the Unmonitored Devices section, that seems to have an Exclude from Netscans option, but since our netscans put their results into their own folders, it seems like we can't use that list? We'd like to have one big list of IPs that we don't want LM to try to use regardless of which network the IP happens to be on. Is there any way to do this? Would we be able to do this if we didn't have a folder for each netscan and just had everything go into unmonitored devices?
Just curious how everyone else deals with netscans, sorting the found devices, dealing with thing you don't want LM to keep trying to scan, etc.
Thanks.
