Windows Application Event Log Monitoring

Is Event log monitoring of the Windows application log fully supported? I can understand that the Applications and Services Logs are not since they are not exposed to WMI. I don't see an event source in the repository for the Windows application log like the others (system, security). I do see Exchange and SQL related event sources in the repository that leverage the application log so I assume it must work?
