Info and Overview resource tabs | Product Discussions

I’d like to know what is planned to make the overview and info tabs for resources easier to use/more useful.My experience with the info tab is that there is just too much information on it for my day to day tasks. It’s all useful to have, but the details I need most are spread out through a very long list and I honestly don’t remember what the property names of them are most of the time. Is there something in the works to make this easier? If I could pin which properties are most important to me to the top of the screen, that’d be helpful. Being able to put them in a table on the overview tab would also be very helpful.Right now, I’m not really using the overview tab much since I can’t put what would be useful on it. To me these seem like they should be device level dashboards. Are there any plans to add more functionality to this tab? I’d need more tabular data instead of just graphs (important details from the info tab, instance level info from various datasources, etc.)

Was there ever any movement on pinning properties to the top of the Info tab? I'm trying UIv4 again today and not having what I need up at the top of the list is still making tasks more difficult than they need to be

Curious what you mean because I haven’t seen a way to do it.

You are correct… I’m thinking the tables in the reports (which seem to be a different purpose element with the same naming convention). Tables Widget is just a datasource lookup. It does seem to allow for row names that accept ##stuff##… so you may be able to insert them as part of the row name… nothing simple though… experimentation needed.

@Sarah Luna , if you made dashboard widgets that could display properties, we could just put widgets on custom resource dashboards with the desired properties in them. Having properties displayable on widgets has been something on the wish list for years.

We can kind of do this in a table widget, but they’re horribly broken at scale.

Hellooo!

I’m Sarah, one of the PMs over the UIv4 experience. Like Stuart said - we have some upgraded experiences in UIv4. You can create device-level dashboards via an AppliesTo, so it makes it easier to build out views with the specific datapoints you want.

Additionally, you can pin graphs on the Overview tab of a device. There’s a bar at the bottom of the screen that let’s you customize what graphs you want to see that stay pinned so you can reference them whenever.

But on top of that - we’re trying to figure out how to improve the Info tab and graphs experience in UIv4. I’d be curious to know:
1. How many properties are y’all interested in pinning - is it just a handful (like ~5) or more? Would this be applicable to all resources or just a subset?
2. What other types of information would you be interested in seeing on the Overview tab?
3. At what level would you want to see “pinned” information? At the group, device, datasource…. or just all levels?

I’m also always happy to schedule a quick 1:1 session as well with whoever wants to chat.

This would probably vary by device type honestly. I’m looking for pretty basic information like IP address, make/model, software/OS version, etc. I know I can filter them but I will never remember what the property names are so this won’t work for me.
The graph data is useful but I really need tabular data of my choosing as well. If this is truly an overview, having the basic info I’m looking for to be pinned from the info tab would need to be on here. Generally having more of the dashboard widgets available at for this tab in some form would be great. I also would prefer to have an uptime widget that doesn’t use up so much space as well.
When I have an instance selected, I already can’t tell which properties are for the instance and which are for the resource it belongs to at a quick glance. Having pinning would be good at all levels. For me, have some visual distinction would make the information much more accessible.

I don’t yet have any interest in pinning properties. Has anyone actually asked for that or was it an idea that came from inside LM? I prefer to have them in order so i can scroll/filter my way through them. I would prefer if the properties widget could take up more than 60% of the container width though. On instances it’s really bad to view the properties. You gotta fix the column widths too. The columns that contain little text default to really wide, and the columns that have text ranging in size from 1 to 255 default to really skinny.

Give me an indicator (when did you guys get scared of colors?) of which properties are inherited vs. not and what level they come from. If i’m looking at an instance, show me which props are on the instance, which are coming from the device, and which are coming from levels above that. Would also be nice to have the ability to filter in/out inherited/non-inherited properties.

Give me a group button (tree?) that i can use to collapse all custom, or auto, or system properties.

I’ve mentioned this before, but i’m willing to have 1:1 with anybody every sprint if you want.

Yes, we have interesting ideas for the Info and Overview resource tabs. It will be great to schedule a UX session to understand the end-user perspectives on these ideas.
