Select a group, go to alert tuning, search for a configsource like “Standard Configs (SSH Exec)”. Notice there is a datapoint called “Check”.

Reset/refresh. Now that all datapoints are chosen, use the other search box (no, not that one, the other one. No not that one, the other one that is right above the datapoint table) to search for “Check”. Notice that the datapoint under the configsource doesn’t show up.

For the record, I was told 5ish years ago that Websites was being moved to resources, which would allow better control of alerts.

It will, and it will also really help with reducing RBAC management requirements also. There is a migration requirement, so I believe the best approach is to provide either option, with the new resource websites being cost "forgiven" during a migration period of 3 months.

A migration tool would be good.

I'd also like to see Netscans work for websites/ping checks, as this could be used to integrate with website management CMDBs and IPAM tools to automatically bring assets into LM management.

I’m also available to go over ours, but I never use this to view graphs as there’s too much clicking to get to something useful… fundamentally the same as UIv3. Navigating from alerts to instances, I got the graphs I wanted… or I just use the tree to the left to find what I’m looking for… but getting bulk graph data to compare resources for a group doesn’t allow for direct comparison easily, so I go to dashboards and make my own instead. There are workarounds in UIv4 now, but they’re still extra clicks and loss of location and context of the device page you’re currently in.

So UI4 via a fresh customer account can’t navigate at all.

We build out folders out as ‘Clients\COMPANYID\LocationA\Firewalls’ for example. Well when a client logs in with a fresh account, it loads the root folder and doesn’t let them walk down the tree. The root folder never expands. Can’t even generate a HAR as nothing happens at all. You click nadda.

Hi Joe - I believe this is related to an issue that is being fixed in v196. If you want, you can create a support ticket so they can link it to the original bug since the fix is a couple releases from now.

I am still getting the occasional JSON error when trying to leave a page and also seem to get stuck with a blank screen when trying to navigate Resources/instances. Also if an instance has an alert and i click on the instance the alert icon disappears so now if i click to a different instance i cant see the alert icon on the previous clicked instance :( took me a good amount of time to find how to disable an instance. I see we can select multiple alerts and SDT them or disable them. This will be handy. Also having the group inventory where you can select devices to SDT will be super handy for our 24x7 team. Anything like this so we don't have to single click each item is so valuable.

Is the magnifying glass causing an issue with selecting a device? We made some updates to the tree where you can now click anywhere on the line to select a device but curious to know if there’s something else that’s happening here with the magnifying glass.

Yeah, the magnifying glass is so close to the device name, that i’ve focused instead of selecting about 90% of the time i meant to select.

Does LM still not have a QA department? Or are they just asleep?

I figured it would be easier to put this all in one post. First - thanks for all the feedback! It’s always appreciated as we’re continuously trying to improve the V4 experience.

Here’s the current status/follow up on the posted items:

For the javascript console errors - can you submit a support ticket for this? We’ll need additional information to resolve this issue since I’m not able to reproduce this in our internal environments.
I see what you mean about not indicating whether a Collector Group is auto-balanced in the Add Resource workflow. I’ve created a ticket for this issue.
We have a ticket around the “Are you sure” modal when you’ve made no changes - I don’t have a timeline of when this will be complete, but we are aware of that issue.

We recently fixed an issue about not having the instance name on the alert tuning tab so that will help with some of the confusion.This will be available in a future release.
As for the other issue around the counts being wrong - I’m not able to replicate that issue. Can you submit a support ticket for this so we can figure out what’s happening there?
Same thing for the error stack issue - please submit a support ticket for this issue. We’ll also need some additional information like what steps had you taken prior to the issue.

Are the UIv4 team are living in fantasy-land?

I just got this error message. I tried in another tab and had to log back in (SSO), so I expect that this is down to an expired token after the OS wakes up from sleep:

Focus on a multi-instance datasource with more than a few instances and more than a few datapoints, then go to the alert tuning tab.

Every datapoint is listed X times where X is the number of instances. Presumably this is so that you can tune the alert on the instance level even though you do not have the instance selected. I get it. However, there’s no way of knowing which datapoint corresponds to which instance. The table doesn’t have an instance column.

If I’m focused on the devicedatasource, I don’t want to see child objects, heredity should only go downward, not upward.

Interestingly, this doesn’t happen when focused on an instance group. I wonder if this is a bug.

I have 32 instances. I have 17 datapoints.

When focused on the devicedatsource, i show 544 Alert Tuning Config Slots. (<== this should be 17)

When focused on a group of 26 instances, i show 17 Alert Tuning Config Slots.

When focused on a single isntance, i show 17 alert tuning config slots.

The magnifying glass drives me nuts - we need less clicks not more clicks.

Agree about the magnifying glass, it adds to the whole cluttered feeling of the UI. I’m not looking forward to teaching the people I support how to use this interface.

If I enter a dialog, make no changes and cancel, I should not get an “Are you sure?” prompt.

It’s irrelevant whether I’m sure. I made no changes.

Affects both the Resource Group and Resource edit dialogs.

I’m afraid the whole of the new UI is unworkable for me. I’m trying to like it, but can’t.

Here are the main issues:

It’s too slow. It’s not only unresponsive, its also so slow to navigate even when you know what you’re looking for.
It is too visually confusing. Guess what ANY of these buttons mean:
Icons hover text set to “Default” everywhere means I have no idea what these icons mean either:
Dialogs of submenus of tabs of subtabs of submenus. None of this screenshot is intuitive:
Zoom in icon means “Focus?” What the actual metaphor?

We’ve been here before. It’s going to be great. But just now it’s really bad.

On the alert tuning tab, it would be nice to be able to filter the datapoint list by logicmodule using glob expressions. And because nobody at LM seems to understand the difference: filter by logicmodule name and/or logicmodule display name. Being able to filter by name means i can get just the datapoints for a specific module, not including datapoints for a different module with the same display name.

Yes, I know i can filter by clicking on the module name in the list, i’m talking about glob expressions.

The Resource Custom Property dialog has two critical issues:

It is extremely slow
It is not possible to put your cursor midway into a property name without the cursor jumping to the end.

Yep, i just discovered that issue as well. Sometimes up to 7 seconds (7000ms) of delay between typing a character and that character showing up on the screen.

On the Poll now screen, there are some nice features, including the ability to see the script output (green).

This was there before.

However, there is a lot wrong:

the script output should be in a fixed-width font
the scriptOutput Normal DataPoint (red) should be removed
- it is a duplicate of the green box
- it is not multiline
- it does not overflow correctly
For BatchScript DataSources, the “Raw Request/Response” section is no such thing
- The chevrons next to numbers don’t do anything
- Only one of the variables is shown
- Values should be sorted alphanumerically, or not at all
- I’d prefer to simply see the raw output in fixed-width font

I find myself heavily using the “view global definition” button in UIv3. I’m using it UIv4 too, but when focused on the instance, it’s one of three options squirreled away under the overflow menu. That’s not a big deal except for the extra couple dozen or so clicks a day for me. The real problem is that the other two options under there are pretty dangerous: “Disable Alert Generation” and “Stop Collecting”. These used to be toggle switches in the old UI and I get why putting them under the overflow is a nice thing to do. However, I’ve had several heart attacks while trying to just navigate to the global definition of a datasource when I thought I accidentally clicked on one of the other two options.

tl;dr - don’t put a non-changing action right next to two pretty severe configuration altering buttons.

Also, why is there an overflow anyway? For one thing, there’s more than enough room for all the buttons. For another thing, the “Manage Resource Options” button is right next to it. Guess what it is? A menu with sub options. That’s right, there are basically two overflow menus right next to each other when you are drilled into the instance.

Been working on tweaking a DataSource. I find myself identifying the resources that need to be tweaked by drilling down to one of the instances from a dashboard. It seems to default to the SDT tab, not sure why. However, in order to tweak it, I have to look at the IOS Config and inspect the running-config. Since I’m on the SDT tab when drilled into the DS instance, the UI seems to think that I will want to look at the SDT tab on the configsource instance as well. I am constantly having to switch tabs.

We need a way to specify which tab will be the default tab that we land on. I’d be fine if it just landed on the first tab, i can reorder them if i want to land on a different one. The idea of LM trying to help me by switching to the SDT tab because i was on the SDT tab before is counter-helpful.

I’m having this happen as well, very frustrating to have to keep ending up on a tab I’m not working with

SDT icon only shows on instances where there is an alert. I have a device which is in SDT. It has several alerts. However, the resource tree only shows the SDT icon on members of the tree where it or its children currently have open alerts:

I can see why someone might want this, because the alternative is an SDT icon on every member of the tree. However, the current display gives the impression that only certain instances under the device are in SDT.

Please give us a toggle so we can change this setting to the way we prefer.

User level setting can override portal level setting:

So, we can now use Cisco 3560Gs as collectors? Awesome!!

If your signifier has a bad mapping, users can’t use the affordance.

When i set the pagination for a table to be larger than the current page, it requires a scroll. I scroll through the data on the first page, then hit the button to go to the next page. It doesn’t take me to the top of the next page. This is counterintuitive.

When focused on a resource group and looking at the alert tuning tab, is there a way to filter or sort to only show the thresholds that have been set at that level? I’ve got 1002 “Alert Tuning Config Slots” but I’d like to see the ones that are actually set.

To clarify, I want to see which ones are set at that group. So, I’d want to be able to filter by the value in the “Static Threshold Set at” or “Dynamic Threshold Set at” field where their value is the same as the current group focused on.

When focused on a resource group and looking at the alert tuning tab, is there a way to filter or sort to only show the thresholds that have been set at that level? I’ve got 1002 “Alert Tuning Config Slots” but I’d like to see the ones that are actually set.

We can’t sort by anything other than the datapoint column, it seems.

Also, there is a way to filter by logicmodule display name, but there’s no way to filter by logicmodule name (since any number of modules can have the same display name). Which VMware VM Status is which? They have different names, but the same display name.

It would also be more useful if the table itself could be filtered like most other tables. Filter by datasource, by datapoint, by the presence or absence of a static or dynamic threshold, etc.

Throughout the UI, the Resource Group selector should permit the user to type any valid substring of the Resource Group.

For example, if I have a full path of PDL - Panoramic Data/Azure/Redis Cache, I should be able to simply type “Redis” and autocomplete should find the relevant group for me. Also, it shouldn’t wrap over multiple lines.

So, you can’t select a datasource group in the tree. If you do, it selects the first datasource under it and expands it (then selects the first instance under it sometimes). This has frustrated me a lot since the first datasource isn’t usually the one i want (just because it’s alphabetically before the others doesn’t make it more interesting).

Also, while you’re messing with stuff, can in request new functionality? I often use the “debug” button the raw data tab to get me to the right collector for the device i’m currently looking at. In UIv3, I have to navigate down to an instance and go to the raw data tab. However, the link for the debug button in that location (and all instances on that device) is the same. Could you put that link in the device overflow menu?

I agree that is way too messy. But I hesitate to just give each icon a column. That would likely make worse the padding that already exists between the right border of the tree container and the names of the objects in the tree.

What does the microchip with the question mark even mean?

Do we need the dead icon if the alert has been ACKd?

If the bell has a slash through it, doesn’t that mean alerting is turned off? How can it have an alert if alerting is turned off?

Could the question-mark-microchip or skull icons replace the alert icons, just change the color to indicate the underlying severity?

If a critical is ack’d, do i need to see the critical icon or is the ack icon enough? Maybe make it a red checkmark instead of a red flame?

Cloud Resource naming needs a rethink.

For example, for Azure Application Insights, this is not useful:

The string “ApplicationInsights” is superfluous in the tree and the actual useful information has been hidden by ellipsis.

I expanded a graph while drilled into an instance. It took me a full 2 minutes to realize the timeframe selector is not in the upper right hand corner, but in the upper left corner. Very inconsistent look and feel.

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned before but when looking at the info tab for an instance, the Properties widget doesn’t use all the available space. It’s like it thinks there should be the device level widgets on the right hand side, but they’re not there. So it’s just wasted space.

Morning folks, encountered a few things today forcing myself to try the new UI more…

left nav: criticality icons don’t show on collapsed items, hard to find the offending ‘Source
poll now: no longer shows the error that can be troubleshot, nor anywhere to see what the error would have been.
main top: server name no longer shows displayname (name) as it once did. We use this to show both device name and ip address at a glance.
info main: missing column resize between main and groups panes
info table pane: preference, property names column should show full width, data is second, inheritance and type are of less importance for display and can be thinner/truncated, and should both be to the right of the actual pertinent troubleshooting data.
performance: same slowness / responsiveness issues mentioned above. During actual troubleshooting for an incident, I have to switch back to the old UI as it’s unusably slow for a critical response. Too high an increase in our MTTR.
add device wizard: Finish doesn’t take you back to the group you were in when you started the process, still issues with the group navigation from the old UI… I assume that code hasn’t changed at all. Best case for me, precedence should be:
- previous group
- static group/s: probably per alpha to match threshold evaluation precedence
- dynamic groups: probably per alpha to match threshold evaluation precedence

Hi - May I talk about disabled datasources. The new UI handles it very poorly or not at all. In the new UI a disabled Datasource looks the same as an enabled Datasource. In the UI I use everyday because its awesome, the disabled datasources are list under ‘Disabled Datasources’. This is great because it keeps the resource clean and easy to read.

I keep trying to use the New UI but i find it so cumbersome to navigate and hard to look at, I never last longer than a couple hours as it slows me down so much.

The magnifying glass drives me nuts - we need less clicks not more clicks.

It really feels very Windows 3.11

What would be nice to see if its possible is to be able to search a selected group.

It’s certainly way too busy and hard on the eyes. I’ve been playing with it for a few months now to help with bug ID and feedback but I can’t even bear to use it long before toggling it back off.

I’m not concluded on that. I’ve found the search option pretty handy since we have so many properties i ended up using the browser’s search capability in most cases anyway.

In a meeting with the UI folks, I did suggest that the different sections if the info page should have the same layout options as the graphs page. Give me the ability to put them into 1, 2, or 3 columns. On a tall monitor (regular monitor rotated 90 degrees) the one column makes sense. With a widescreen monitor, there’s a lot of wasted screen space if they can’t be side by side. Not sure why it would be terribly difficult, CSS knows how to deal with wrapping of divs on wide vs. skinny screens.

Agreed, the spreadsheet view of the new Info tab is a step backwards in look/feel. It makes an already long list of properties (depending upon the device) seem even longer. The old view IMO looked better visually and was a more effective use of screen real estate.

Having the “Manage” page for resources be a pop-over worked better IMO than refreshing the subpage when going into and leaving.

Just got access to the new UI late last week and have to reiterate what @David Marsh said, the new UI is almost unusably slow.

Also on the resources page having to click precisely on the greater than (>) symbol or magnifying glass to expand stuff out rather than just clicking on the item itself is irritating.

The two combine into a very frustrating user experience where you’re guessing why the UI isn’t responding to what you’re trying to do.

Some other things I’ve noticed:

The new Info panel, why are the values right aligned? That’s an odd decision.
Deleted items shows a count for me, but no items (items show in current UI).
Sometimes I get this empty unused space
and if I collapse the top section by dragging, sometimes I can’t open it again by dragging:

I might find it more useful if it sorted by name, ascending alphabetically. Or if, once i sorted it that way, it stayed. But no customization survives a page reload.

Noticed a couple of things I would like to highlight

Search for resources clicking on the name no longer works when selecting a resource, you need to press the magnifying glass, at least when using a MAC not sure on other devices. The same is true when navigating the folder structure.
The Info tab I personally found the previous layout more usable the layout now is not as intuitive.
When checking config sources we see the error below using Standard Configs (SSH Exec) module and clicking on show running config:

The graphs when selecting a device in this case an Arista switch are not the critical statistics such as CPU, Memory, throughput but more likely the first few data sources, admittedly this probably is configurable, but typically for infrastructure resources CPU, Memory, Throughput etc are common graphs you would want to look at rather than fan speed and device temperature.

These are the ones that I have found at the moment not really noticed a speed issue though.

It should do like other “fullscreen” buttons do on the rest of the UI. It should open full screen.

I know you didn’t delete mine, which is why I didn’t say it was deleted. I said it appears to have been deleted. There’s no notification to the OP and no linkage from the old location to the new location.

Use tags to track stuff. Especially since artifacts will be reused across pages. Tables applies to all UIv4 pages where they exist. Are you going to move my post to the other features when the PM finally figures that out? Tags would handle this.

My subject line disappeared. This is “Table settings are not persistent”. While I appreciate that the PMs don’t have any idea how to navigate the community, putting all responses for resources under this one thread is going to be unsustainable. Why not just instruct us to tag with either “Resources, UIv4” or “Reports, UIv4” or “Services, UIv4”.

I’ve already lost where my things are. And it appears that feedback is being deleted. It’s also going to make it harder to see which problems should be the highest priority in getting fixed. When someone comes in, they’ll have to read through this entire thread to see if someone has already mentioned the problem they are bringing to light.

In the new resource UI view, when viewing configuration backups, the icon labelled “View Full Screen” simply opens a small dialog window in the middle of the view, which is hardly “full screen”. I was expecting it to take up the full view.
