·3 years agoA Sales Enablement group would be great!

·3 years agoDon’t see the value of creating a group separate from the Welcome category. I can subscribe to the Welcome category and get updates if i want. Or just browse there when i want and automatically subscribe to threads i reply to.
Another thing that was mentioned was a space for personal conversations. Would anyone be interested in a group for personal sharing? Rather than just a forum, it could be a public group people could join. LMK your thoughts!
@Mark Hensler you guys are both offering great suggestions, totally appreciate it, but the platform limits me to what you see in the right rail (added the events back). The only widgets not showing are the Announcements, which are already at the top of the page.
Re: Gamification, the Leaderboard and Most likes are on most of the other pages. I tried to define the badges a bit more here, but until we have a deeper integration from other platforms we can start to award badges for activities in other systems, Academy, Product Board, Feature Requests, etc. I am anticipating that will begin to happen later this year. 🤞
When looking over the Recent Activity, I see cyan question marks and green checkmarks. These icons are helpful. Could we get a sidebar section showing unanswered questions?
If we can get a new Topic Type of Feature Request (please do this), I would love to see a sidebar section for Most Recent Feature Requests. And a new icon for the Recent Activity.
Recent Activity - Not available in the platform
Topic Type of Feature Request - Not available in platform, however once we get thru integrations, we will be able to share content/info across platforms.
Most Recent Feature Requests. And a new icon for the Recent Activity. - Platform limitations do not allow for this.

·3 years agoYes, that would be awesome. Ally’s hands might be tied though as the product team will have a lot of say in how feature requests work in the community (now that they’ve decided to pay attention to the community).
Yes, this too.

·3 years agoUpdate on this: I feel like a broken record, but the platform limits me on design and placement of widgets. Take a look at this page, it’s a secondary landing page I was able to create. I can add and remove widgets, still limited, but is this view more helpful? https://community.logicmonitor.com/community?
I like that the “fluff” has been removed and that the content has been pulled up.
I think the Events Calendar should stay - so long as you maintain a supply of fresh events.
Agreed. The Solved Topics can be removed.
My opinion might be unique or unpopular, but I don’t like gamification of the community. The Most Liked and User Leaderboard could be moved to another page that is linked from the footer, and I wouldn’t miss them. I don’t (yet) like badges, but if this feed shows recent awards, that is at least an informative recent event (more so, if we understood and appreciated the accomplishment).

·3 years agoSuggest replacing the link on the main page (tiles widget) that currently goes to the product hub and just send them to the forums page.
Cool! I'll have the events widget too. I publish that new page, it's called Forums, it's in the main drop down menu at the top. So feel free to bookmark it 😁
I will keep tweaking things as we go. Appreciate your input!

·3 years agoWait, i might see what you’re doing there and I approve. Home page can be all things community (which in the past has only been the forums, but in the future will be so much more). Forums page can be just focused on the actual forum discussions. I like it.

·3 years agoLooking really good. If it were just up to me, i’d be fine leaving that as an alternate home page because i can always bookmark it. Event calendar might be another good widget to put in the side bar. It’s small enough not to take up too much room and i imagine it vertically collapses into nothing if there’s no events.
Is there a way to do context sensitive layouts? Show one thing to users who are not logged in and another to users who are? Would be amazed if it could show different layouts based on rank (is it rank that indicates how active someone is in the community?)
Yes, but not layouts. You can only show different content based on user login state and permissions.
The Categories and Featured Post widgets are not available for the side rail, but I added Categories to the feed and made it a little smaller under the Feed section. As far as right rail, what’s there is about all I can add, all I can do is reorder them. Moved the tag cloud up. As we talked about before, we are working to see if APIs will allow us to create an “Unread posts” list which would then go in the right rail...assuming we can make that work ;)
Baby steps ;)

·3 years agoFor me particularly, I love that. It’s basically what i got when i pointed my ad blocker at the home page. It gets me right to the content. I don’t have to scroll down to see new stuff.
FWIW: I’d be ok if the categories widget (I think that’s the widget, right after the leaderboard in skinny mode, first full width widget after the feed) was higher up in the sidebar. Solved topics is nice, but there’s nothing actionable in there, it’s all in the past. Tag cloud could be higher. The last widget on the page (highlighted posts? suggested?) could also be moved up in the sidebar as it seems to indicate that it needs attention.
Instead of trying to appeal the 5%, give the 95% what they want and find a more creative way to appeal to the 5%. Just change the order. Or make it collapsable. Or put it in the side bar. I guess i’m combining two topics here: what should be in the community and where it should be in the community.

·3 years agoThanks Guys! I’ll take the recommendations back to the team. A couple of items can speak to:
Subscribe to tags - Platform limitation but an idea was submitted to the vendor.
Customer Stories and other “from LM” topics. A Community should have something for everyone, while most users are highly engaged in product and tech discussions, which is and always will be the volume of engagement, but there are customer who want to celebrate their success and we welcome that!
We want to celebrate our Customer’s achievements, LM Achievements and other information that may seem “salesy”, but that is not a bad thing. There are people who come to communities to better understand a product before purchasing, so we plan to provide a lot of new types of content, sales, success, thought leadership and more in the near future!
I get it. I would sometimes get pressure (but no executive support) to put sales stuff into the community as well. I don’t disagree that it should be in the community. Just disagree that it should be the only thing above the fold. Instead of trying to appeal the 5%, give the 95% what they want and find a more creative way to appeal to the 5%. Just change the order. Or make it collapsable. Or put it in the side bar. I guess i’m combining two topics here: what should be in the community and where it should be in the community.
Bigger point here is that categories should line up with the way the 95% will be subscribing to them.

·3 years agoCould a “Feature Request” become a new type of topic? An alternative to “Question” and “Conversation”.
Exactly.
I would love to be able to subscribe to tags. That is a great idea.
Even better, subscribe to a search, which could be based solely on tags, but could also have other options.
Mark_Hensler
·3 years agoFeature request flagging could be done with a tag, but it would be better to have a dedicated toggle marking a post as a feature request, rather than just a simple tag. Better for integration with Product Board.

What things can you subscribe to? Categories obviously, but can you subscribe to tags? Can you subscribe to groups?

·3 years agoYou could add sub-categories to Product Discussions for LM Logs and LM APM.
I think this is the answer. Categories per product/product area. So:
Tags would be good for use with specific industry technology areas. For example, if I post a question about SQL server monitoring, I’d do it in the IM category with the MS SQL tag. If I were going to post a feature request for fluentd, I’d post it under the LM Logs category with a flag for feature request. Feature request flagging could be done with a tag, but it would be better to have a dedicated toggle marking a post as a feature request, rather than just a simple tag. Better for integration with Product Board.
What things can you subscribe to? Categories obviously, but can you subscribe to tags? Can you subscribe to groups? Think about the interests people are going to have and what they’d want to subscribe to. I’d want to subscribe to IM and LM Logs, but not LM APM because we are not APM customers (gonna let that brownie cook a little longer, haha). Someone who is not an LM Logs customer and not an LM APM customer won’t care to see stuff in those product discussion categories.
Great feedback from everyone! We are gathering all the info for review.
Re: Categories and Sub Categories, we are working on these now, but something to consider is, how best to gather specific conversations together, while having separation is good, many conversations cross over multiple products so we need to consider how best to categorize without having the same conversations types in multiple areas, which could make it harder to find your answers, or even know where to post.
Re: Profile Section, we a fairly limited to customizations in this area, there is a tag cloud, if you click on a tag it will bring up other conversations with that tag, it will also offer recommended tags as you are adding tags to posts. Tagging is so key, so please don’t be shy about tagging! From your profile, you can follow other members and get notifications when they post.
Re: Groups, here’s some info I provided on another post. We definitely want to include more groups, but again we need to have a balance, what discussions happen in groups vs forums and how does a user determine where to go for answers?
Keep the ideas coming!

·3 years agoAs Mark said, per sub product break outs would be nice.

·3 years agoI think I would find it valuable if there was a way to allow me to “associate” with other members based on products, services, technologies, vendors, etc that I have in common with them. The idea being that this would allow me another way to target my community questions, answers, posts and other input and to organize or prioritize the input that I see from others.
Immediately this makes me think of a VMware group, a Cisco group, an AWS group as examples. That would probably work but it also might become a huge unmanageable mess.
Another idea would be to add a Profile section that would allow me to select pre-defined “tags” (there might/must be some way to automate their definition based on importing a value from the Modules or Integrations universes in the Portal UI?) For example, we use and monitor Juniper routers so maybe this would be a way for me to focus/constrain content & interactions with only other community members also using Juniper routers instead of all of those who use Cisco routers?
Maybe LM would find this interesting enough to explore it further and see if where it (or any of the possible iterations) goes would lead to something that could be implemented here in the Community.
